RKA Cleaning provides office cleaning in Portland. The crew removes the breakroom trash and recycling on each visit. This page covers the Portland business food waste requirement for an office breakroom. Check whether it applies. Then set up the bins in 5 steps.

Check whether the rule applies to your office

The City page Business food scraps requirement sets the line at over 250 pounds of food waste a week. The Metro food scraps separation policy calls that about 1 roll cart that holds 60 gallons.

The rule does not cover offices that produce no food waste. The City encourages offices with over 100 employees and a breakroom to sign up. In a leased Portland building, a manager who provides garbage service to a food business must also provide compost service. Ask the property manager first.

Set up the breakroom bins, step by step

  1. The office contracts a garbage company for a compost cart. City staff help with the setup. Metro gives free help, internal containers and labels.
  2. Put 3 bins at the sink: garbage, recycling, food scraps. Put food only in the food bin: no cups, packaging or paper products.
  3. Label each bin at eye level.
  4. Add the food bin to the written cleaning scope. Name who empties it and how often. The crew wipes the breakroom counters and tables with the zone’s color-coded microfiber cloth.
  5. Line the food bin. The City allows BPI-certified compostable bags. RKA can supply the liners or manage the office’s stock and say when to reorder.

How we set the price for breakroom service

RKA gives no price over the phone. A walkthrough of about 20 minutes comes first, then a written quote. RKA bases the price on square footage, business type and cleaning frequency. The quote includes labor, supplies, equipment and insurance.

Visits per week and who supplies the liners change the number. The compost service cost is separate: the office negotiates the cart fee with the garbage company. Our FAQ lists $150 to $400 a month for weekly cleaning of a small office. The Portland cleaning rates guide lists more.

What you get after each visit

Under the CleanAssure Standard, every visit ends with a digital checklist and timestamped photos. The crew sends both to your account manager. The crew logs a maintenance issue, such as a cracked bin lid, for the property manager. If an item fails your inspection, the crew cleans it again within 24 hours at no charge.
